THE ELECTRIFIED WINGSUIT – BMW Engrossing Project

We acknowledge that you can see how much he loves flying, he is in his element in the air and we applaud the amazing result of The Electrified Wingsuit project.

It is no surprise that giant brand BMW is well known all over the world. We also very proud to call them our partner. Most of us knows them as the car manufacturer so it was very nice surprise to see them work on the fascinating project – The Electrified Wingsuit. Which is actually first part of very #NEXTgen unique web series.

Classic Wind Suit is a publicly known adrenaline supplement for fans of exciting activities. But.. But there are limited options in the field, speed and overall performance.

Someone likes to play with kites, someone likes to be one.

Peter Salzmann, an enthusiast of adrenaline, flying and jumping, was aware of these limitations and as is often the case with creative and exploratory souls, he could not leave an idea just an idea, but he did everything he could to make it reality.

“Flying is freedom. It’s the ultimate expression of striving for the unknown and discovering new horizons. Idea for this project came up there in the mountains, where I found a new jump that was no possible for the common wingsuit. So I began dreaming how to fly further or even gain altitude. Again, it was time for something new. Something the world hasn’t seen before.” says Salzmann.

He decided to contact BMWi with his vision to create an original project that took this passion diligently and developed The Electrified Wingsuit in the cooperation with Peter. Together, they have chosen our newest motor controller 18 kW HBCi30063, a 50 V lithium battery system and an electric contactor for their technology. The solution was the best option for the safest and most efficient flight possible.

The studio provided Salzmann with experts to work with the winGsuit pilot on developing the the electrified winGsuit adapted to the new propulsion technology, and the electric impeller.

Three years of work, development, challenges and testing slowly led to the first official helicopter jump test. Everything was well prepared, unfortunately, the planned location for the fly over the three skyscrapers in South Korea was not possible in cause of increasingly growing pandemic situation. In the end winner location was there in home country Austria.

He jumped from almost three kilometers (10 000 ft) above the mountains “Drei Bruder” or “Three Brothers”, proved that this project was a huge success.

As you can see in the video, Peter looks like he has lived in the air longer than on the ground. We acknowledge that you can see how much he loves flying, he is in his element in the air and we applaud the amazing result of The Electrified Wingsuit project.

“I only want to do things that are close to my heart. Yet I allways knew there was more.“ said Peretr Salzmann, a stuntman, basejumper, flight instructor and wingsuit pilot.
